Under the Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Improvement Act, a federal grant is disbursed to all states for enhancing secondary and post-secondary career and technical education programs across the nation.

The Nontraditional Employment & Training Program provides statewide technical assistance for Career and Technical Education institutions that sponsor Carl D. Perkins funded programs.  Nontraditional occupations are defined as any occupation in which one gender comprises less than 25% of the employment within that field.

GENDER NONTRADITIONAL FIELDS OF STUDY

The Nontraditional Employment & Training Project is administered by the Center for Women in Government & Civil Society, University at Albany, State University of New York in partnership with the New York State Education Department.

NET provides timely and useful resources to students, parents, staff and faculty in support of the mission of ending occupational gender domination that limit economic growth and development, maintain gender inequality and curtail workforce opportunities.

NET confers annually the Vanguard Awards to students enrolled in career and technical educational programs that are nontraditional for their gender.
